by John Read

UK hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long history in the Western world and, previously, was done as a giving gesture, using the hamper to deliver food and other home essentials to the deserving. The basket the hamper was displayed in was also purposefully chosen as it was a helpful household item that could be utilized.

In later times, UK hampers have come to be less a gift of essentials and more a gift of little luxuries, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on quality items such as gourmet jams, fine chocolates, exotic coffee beans, fine wines and other premium items that can be enjoyed as a treat and will keep long enough for your special someone to relax when using the item.

There has also been a rising fashion to make specialized hampers - wine hampers that are filled with a broad range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more new development and are filled not with food but with essential and wanted items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only restricted by your imagination!

The flexibility of UK hampers is why it makes such a pleasing present. They can be tailored to any special someone and can be packed with whatever would delight your special someone. When choosing the hamper you want to give, give careful consideration to what goods your special someone enjoys - are they a red wine connoisseur? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a food lover? Then fill the hamper with premium food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with handy baby items.

UK hampers can be given for any reason - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Xmas.

The Xmas hamper has become all the rage and, in an intriguing twist, people are buying Christmas hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for that special someone. Often filled with well-loved Xmas luxuries such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Xmas pudding and even turkey, they are purchased by everyone to be used over the Xmas period. Many UK hampers are purchased on a payment scheme over the year and then used for the Xmas period, helping individuals pay for the cost of the loved Xmas luxuries expected over the holiday season.

There are thousands of companies that concentrate in offering hamper presents and many of them can be found quickly and simply on the net. Many of them will have pre-packed UK hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may let you to modify a hamper and fill it with products of your choice. Almost all companies will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and personal present.

Of course, you don’t have to use a business to give a perfect hamper and it can be even more considerate to make your own. When making a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Use helpful products and luxury items that your special someone may not know to purchase for themselves, to make it even more caring. Hampers also work best when packed with products that won’t go off quickly, such as white wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on filling in products that have to be kept cool or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure your special someone understands that the products must be used quickly.

With going “green” finally being recognized as vital, this book gives the matter serious attention. Contributors from Hollywood even share their best ideas. The authors, Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen, look at the way Americans produce waste, utilize water and consume energy and offer easy to implement changes.

Some of Hollywood’s finest - Robert Redford, Faith Hill, Jennifer Aniston to name a few - offer the tips they use to live green. Rogers and Kostigen keep the focus on 12 areas of our life, e.g. home, work, and school, so that implementing small changes that give back big rewards is manageable. They do this by utilizing mostly descriptive analyses.

Offering a view of the ease of their ideas, here are a couple from The Green Book:

* No more ATM receipts. If the whole United States chose to not print their ATM receipts, there would be more than 2 billion feet of paper saved. This would wrap around the equator 15 times!!

* Get a voice-mail service for your home phone. If all answering machines in U.S. homes were replaced by voice-mail services, the annual energy savings would total nearly two billion kilowatt hours.

With a 4-star rating, the reviewers all like the authors sensibilities in offering small, easy to implement suggestions. One downside however, is that the actual numbers should be corroborated before quoted. Some calculations, when researched, were off.

The authors have done a good job in providing this information in a witty, authoritative manner. They have supplied many ideas for many areas of your life and showed how the smallest choices can have the biggest effect on our world.

The Green Book is the perfect unique Christmas gift idea for someone who loves the environment and wants to make a difference in this world.

If you are like most families who are trying to stretch their budget, you might be worried that you wont be able to splurge on your favorite holiday foods. There are some creative ways to cut costs on your Christmas meal, and still have a delicious Christmas menu with all of the trimmings. These ideas will help you stretch your budget a little further so thatyou can still splurge on your holiday favorites.

The hardest part of Christmas is always sticking to a pre-planned budget. When you are pressed for time, you will be more willing to spend extra money on foods for your Christmas menu that are overpriced. To combat time crunch spending, you will want to make a plan early, and begin shopping for the things you need about a week in advance. You may even be able to buy any frozen, canned or dried goods that you need in late November, when sale shopping it at its best.

If you are shopping at the nearest grocery store, then you may want to consider looking for a budget-friendly grocer in your city. During the holiday season, it may be worth it to drive for a few extra miles to buy the foods that you need for your Christmas menu. The gas that you use won’t go to waste when you can shop for foods at a massively discounted price over your local grocer, and you can still buy most, if not all, of the foods that you need for your dinner.

While this may also be one of the more obvious tips for saving money, remember that preparing the foods yourself for your Christmas menu yourself will definitely save you a lot over buying anything pre-made.

You may be tempted to pick up a prepared vegetable or lunch meat tray. However, preparing them yourself will save you quite a bit of money. If you are pressed for time trying to get everything done, then you can always call in the family for help. Kids love to decorate cookies, and Mom and Dad can share the prep work in the kitchen.

Are you one of those families who are up at the crack of dawn on Christmas morning? How about switching your Christmas menu to a homemade breakfast. Your family will love having homemade pancakes, cinnamon apples, eggs and ham after opening presents, and breakfast foods are typically less costly than other foods. You can also prep all of the foods that you want to make the night before, so that all you need to do is cook the food.

For families who have a buffet style dinner, the option of turning a turkey tenderloin or a ham into a sandwich buffet would be a big hit. If you are having a lot of guests over consider doing a pot luck with everyone bringing a different dish to pass. Try to plan it so some guests bring dessert, some bring sides, etc to get a nice variety.

If you are intent on having a traditional Christmas dinner, making all of your foods yourself should really help stretch your budget, and your family will love having homemade foods and treats on the Christmas menu.

Finding a unique Christmas gift idea is tough - especially if you’re looking for a gift for someone who has everything. Sometimes the best answer for this person isn’t even something for them - sometimes it’s something from them. Here’s an idea for the person who has a heart for the poor and undernourished around the world.

Here you are again, desperately searching for that special something for that someone who doesn’t need or want anything! Think outside the box - maybe giving a gift from them?

The United Nations World Food Programme has come up with a way to help hungry kids by raising money for food to feed them. The gift is The FEED bag. We all know the devastation that hunger is taking on worldwide health, more than either other disease. Sadly, every 5 seconds, hungry ends another life of a child.

With every FEED bag that they sell, United Nations World Food Programme will supply a full year of school meals for one child which will afford them the education the can get with the assurance of a regular meal.

Whether they tote their FEED bag to school, work, play, or shopping, your loved one will remember that their bag helped to feed and educate a child. It will also be their way of sharing this charitable opportunity with everyone they meet when using this bag.

No more hunting for that unique Christmas gift. This is the gift of caring for another that cannot go wrong!

A few simple suggestions in The Green Book are:

* Say No to ATM paper receipts. If we all in the U.S.A. wrote the amount in our checkbook instead of requesting a receipt, the paper saved would be more than 2 billion ft. long.

* Voicemail service instead of answering machine. Unplugging your answering machine could save nearly 2 billion kilowatt hours annually to the United States.

This 4-star rated book earned this ranking due to the small, simple to use ideas. The one area of concern was that some of the numbers when used did not seem to be accurate. However, a simple check before quoting showed the descriptions were right on.

The authors have done a good job in providing this information in a witty, authoritative manner. They have supplied many ideas for many areas of your life and showed how the smallest choices can have the biggest effect on our world.

A hot Christmas gift idea, The Green Book is right in line with the way we as a world are going - a healthy planet!

Wishing to find an inspiring Christmas Gift for someone you love? Something unique. Something that will be remembered and treasured for years to come. This Season, “perfect words” may be the “perfect present”.

Express Gratitude -

The one thing most of us truly want is to know that we are valued and appreciated by others. A few kind words of appreciation are certainly gifts that will be joyously received. Words of gratitude are remembered for a life time. Even a quick Thank You note, a thoughtful e-mail, or an unexpected text message can brighten the entire Christmas Season.

Praise Others -

Words of praise are always a most welcome, and often unexpected, gift. Taking the time to acknowledge other’s strength of character brings forth your deeper connection to the Human Spirit. For the recipient, words of praise convey a true sense of respect and appreciation that will last well into the New Year.

Words that Encourage -

Encouraging words are often the most needed gifts during the Holiday Season. As each of us is constantly striving to improve ourselves, other’s recognition of your efforts is always welcome. Moral support and the gift of knowing that someone else believes in you, is often the most loved present.

Inspiring Words -

Giving the gift of inspiring words is a wonderful way to pass along the spirit of the Season. Classic Christmas music and traditional Christmas Stories can rekindle the true meaning of Christmas. Inspiring words are always a welcome gift.

Looking for a present that comes from the heart? This Christmas start shopping for “perfect words” and you are sure to create gifts that will last long into the New Year.

I’ve got to say I love the Holidays. The warm feeling of love that surrounds us all. The wonderful aroma of holiday food. The bright colors and decorations.

I also love to give and receive gifts. Do you ever wonder how the gift giving tradition started. There are many theories. Here are a few.

At some time in our ancient past, friends exchanged evergreen twigs and dried fruits as wishes for continuation and abundance of life in the coming year. Romans exchanged gifts at winter solstice as expressions of brotherhood and affection, giving coins for prosperity, pastries for happiness, and lamps to light one’s journey through life.

Santa Claus, evolved from St. Nicholas, an actual person who distributed his wealth to the needy through the giving of secret gifts. During the fourth century St. Nicholas had a reputation for his generosity and kindness, especially toward children. He was known for giving treats and small presents to them. St. Nicholas has evolved into the magical Santa Claus of today.

In our Christian culture, the giving of gifts at Christmas is said to symbolize the gifts the Wise Men brought to the baby Jesus. The wise men brought three gifts with them to honor Jesus, which had prophetic meaning. Gold- a gift for a king, Incense- a gift for a priest and Myrrh- a burial ointment for one who would die

It doesn’t matter if you are giving a gift to a special loved one or an friend from work, you want the person to know you appreciate them. Finding just the right gift can be difficult and time comsuming. I am inserting a link to help you with your holiday shopping.
If you are like most families who are becoming more cost-conscious, then the upcoming holidays may be more a strain than a pleasure. There are many of ways that you can save money on your Christmas dinner, and still have a welcoming Christmas menu with all of the trimmings. These budget friendly tips will help you save a little, and won’t make you feel like you are missing out on the best foods of the season.

Sticking to a food budget is tough, especially around the holidays. If you are really busy, you might be tempted to splurge on grocery items for your Christmas menu that are a bit costly. To avoid overspending, start planning ahead, and begin shopping for non perishable items in advance. Look for boxed and canned goods, as well as items that can be frozen in late November-early December.

If you are shopping at your local supermarket, then you might want to consider looking around for deals at other stores nearby. Over the holidays, it might be worth the extra drive if you can save money on foods that you need for your Christmas menu. The gas that you use won’t go to waste when you can shop for foods at a discount store your local grocer, and you should be able to buy most, if not all, of the foods that you need for your meal.

While this may also be one of the more obvious tips that you receive this holiday season, remember that making the foods that you want on your Christmas menu yourself will be more budget friendly than buying prepared foods from the grocers or delis in your area.

If you are all early risers then why not make Christmas morning last a bit longer and switch your big meal to breakfast? Your Christmas menu could include scrambled eggs, sausage, cinnamon rolls, juice and coffee. Since breakfast foods are typically much cheaper then you will save a lot of money this way.

For families who have a buffet style dinner, the option of turning a turkey tenderloin and a ham into a sandwich buffet would be a big hit. Turn it into a pot luck for a less costly with guests bringing a dish to pass for a nice variety. You will want to make sure that you pre-plan the Christmas menu, so that you know who is bringing a dish to pass and get an idea of who is bringing what. That way you are sure to have a nice variety of food.

If you are intent on having a traditional Christmas dinner, making all of your foods yourself should help you save, and your family will love having freshly baked goods on the Christmas menu.
